As a historically black institution, Huston-Tillotson University's mission is to provide opportunities to a diverse population for academic achievement with an emphasis on academic excellence, spiritual and ethical development, civic engagement, and leadership in a nurturing environment.
Why did you choose the CSI as your organization's new home?
The CSI was selected as an extension to our main campus, because it is located in historic East Austin. Also, a factor for selecting CSI is that it will provide space for non- and for-profit organizations. And, just like Huston-Tillotson University, each organization will be exploring solutions to social issues, including education, access to health care, and poverty. It will be an amazing environment of collaboration and diversity.
How will the unique and diverse community of CSI and Springdale General benefit your organization?
CSI is the home of our new Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation - an opportunity for the university to expand its footprint. The diverse community is perfect for our new Center because of the diversity of our students and the ways that we want to impact the community. Innovation and entrepreneurship can only foster with diversity and new ideas.
Your organization is focused on a particular community. Can you share how you’ve been successful in gearing your efforts towards that community?
We deploy a very concentrated admission and recruitment process that ensures we curate and accept the right students for our programs. We offer a safe and nurturing environment to learn and stretch to a diverse community.
Can you share how your organization has been pursuing innovation and some of the challenges for an organization of your size and scale?
CSI is going to be the home for our new Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation. This Center will be the foundation and starting point for many, many innovative projects and ideas.
